Mosquito Ringtones

The origins of the Mosquito Ringtone is a pretty interesting story. Before it became a popular ringtone, what was it? Well, the technology was created in Great Britain to stop teenagers from hanging out in front of shops. The noise was supposed to be of a high enough pitch that older patrons wouldn't notice it. At the same time it was supposed to annoy teenagers.

As such, it's pretty ironic that the technology was turned around and targeted for us specifically for teenagers. For those who don't get it by this point, the mosquito ringtone is a ringtone that teens can hear, but their parents (or other adults) cannot.

That makes it perfect for them to use in environments where they probably should have their ringers set to off such as at home, in school, in libraries, etc.

What's also interesting is that the music industry is cashing in major profits from ringtone sales. Because the mosquito ringtone is not a music ringtone, the record labels aren't making a dime off it. The carriers are, however, as they tend to take a few cents off any ringtone sale made, whether it's a music ringtone or not.
